What Mahama Said On Freddie Blay's 275 Buses

Former President John Mahama has reacted to the procurement of 275 buses by acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay.

In a message on his twitter handle, Mahama said: “$11.4 million Freddie Blay buses ahead of NPP election financed by Universal Merchant Bank? I thought Merchant Bank was sold to my brother, Ibrahim? So Ibrahim Mahama’s bank financed the 275 buses for Blay & NPP? LOL!”

Background

Freddie Blay who is contesting to become the substantive Chairman in the ongoing NPP National Delegates Congress, has been in the news for procuring 275 buses to be distributed to 275 constituencies. This move has been described by some as 'vote buying' especially as it came ahead of the party’s national delegate’s conference.

According to reports, Mr. Blay, paid 3 million dollars which constitute 30% of the total cost of 11.4 million dollars and has already taken delivery of the first 100 mini-buses.

The 275 buses were reportedly financed by Universal Merchant Bank (UMB); a private bank, which was once alleged to be owned by brother of John Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama.
