275 Buses Brouhaha: Chairman Blay Is A Businessman; He Has Capacity To Raise Funds - NPP MP

The Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, is questioning the basis for which the NDC members in Parliament are calling for an investigation into the purchase of some buses by the newly elected NPP Chairman, Freddie Blay for the party.

The Minority in Parliament has demanded an immediate forensic audit of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), following what it called the “vulgar opulence” of its Board Chair, Freddie Blay.

This comes amid allegations of vote buying leveled against Mr. Blay ahead of him emerging winner in the keenly contested national Chairmanship race of the NPP.

It has been reported that 100 out of 275 buses have arrived in the country for distribution.

But, speaking on Adom TV, Dr. Ayew Afriyie noted that under no circumstances would the GNPC finance such project of the NPP National Chairman.

The MP for Effiduase-Asokore argues that the NPP National Chairman has the capacity to raise funds to purchase the buses since his track records show he has been a successful politician and businessman over the years.

However, a former Deputy Communication Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who was on the same programme, believes the NPP displays some level of opulence anytime the party goes into an internal election, saying that Mr Blay’s promise to distribute 275 buses is not an exception.

He maintains that although the party has complained of lack funds to fuel the campaign activities previously, Mr.  Blay had been able to mobilize colossal amount of money to purchase buses for the constituencies soon after the party won the 2016 elections.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also back calls for an investigation into the circumstances leading to the purchase of the buses by the newly elected NPP Chairman.
