No MP In Accra Should Be Given Rent Allowance –Dep Minister

The issue of giving rent allowance to Members of Parliament for each 4-year term has always generated controversies.

Some time back it was alleged that under the leadership of Edward Doe Adjaho (Speaker of Parliament in erstwhile Mahama administration), all 275 MPs, received a whopping GH¢50,000 as rent allowance for their term working out to GH¢13,750,000.

It is not clear how much the current administration is giving out but Member of Parliament for Subin constituency, Ashanti region says no MP in Accra should be given rent allowance.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Tuesday, Eugene Boakye Antwi who also doubles as the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing said: “I believe no MP in Accra should be given rent allowance; Greater Accra MPs should not be given houses but those coming from outside of Accra can be given houses” adding “Before I became an MP, I was living in my own house in Accra so why should that change when I am given an appointment?”
