James Gunu Eyes NDC Big Post

A former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akatsi-North District, Mr. James Gunu, has promised to transform the fortunes of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region and help wrestle power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if he is elected the new Regional Secretary for the opposition party.

Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle, Gunu admitted that the task ahead was a daunting one, but with commitment and determination, he would lead the NDC to win massively in the region to catapult the party to power in 2020.

The former Akatsi-North DCE, who spoke to The Chronicle in Ho after picking a nomination form to contest the position, pointed out that the task ahead of the NDC to recapture power in 2020 was enormous, and that he had decided to contest the position to enable him bring on board his rich experience in leadership over the years to bear on activities of the party in the region.

Mr. Gunu explained that when given the opportunity, he would help put in place strategies that would help the NDC win the election at the regional level, since Volta remains the region that normally brings the party to power, as well as support the government to use political power to create jobs and other economic opportunities for the people.

He said he would take the lead in the formation of business clubs, adopt party branches, zones and constituencies, and make them more vibrant.

He stressed that supporting the grassroots was key to ensuring a strong support base for the NDC in the region, and that his focus would be on how to increase the support base of the party at the grassroots for the needed victory.

The former DCE for Akatsi North said when the opportunity is given thim to serve the party as Regional Secretary, he would also ensure that Prof. Kwesi Botchway Committee’s work would be institutionalised as a way of strengthening the party to be able to stand the test of time, which would definitely lead the NDC to victory.

He also assured the party supporters that the internal communication channels of the party would be improved to ensure that every member and prospective members can freely share their ideas by creating suggestion boxes at the regional office and all constituencies.

Mr. Gunu continued that the NDC regional office would make good use of the new media outlets to ensure that dissemination of information to party members across the region becomes more reliable, fast and without difficulty.

This, he noted, would enable the regional office of the party to also receive feedback from the members to aid the planning of party programmes and activities.

He disclosed that special platforms would be created purposely for members of the party, where discussions on issues bothering the progress of the NDC at the regional level would be discussed, as well as use “Whatsup” applications to send vital information to members of the party at the regional level for quick responses.

Mr. Gunu also mentioned the introduction of a newsletter for the NDC in the region, which would help in projecting party activities and make it more visible, adding that the welfare scheme for members of the party would be developed when he assumes the Regional Secretary   position.

According to the aspiring secretary, he would introduce motivational packages and schemes for all constituency executives, and ensure that all stakeholders would work together to promote unity, which would make the party in the Volta Region ready to capture political power for the NDC again.
