Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, who is also the Deputy Majority Leader, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has debunked reports that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in March sponsored her for an Executive Programme on Women and Leadership Training programme at Harvard.

According to media reports which surfaced in the wake of demands by the NHIA for increases in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) levies, the NPP MP requested $8,500 for tuition as well as funds to cover her tickets and accommodation.

She was supposed to attend the training as chairperson of the Women’s Caucus of Parliament.

“As the Chairperson of the Women Caucus in Parliament, this program would enlighten and enhance my knowledge in leadership and governance,” She appealed in the request letter.

The Executive Programme on Women and Leadership at Havard Kennedy School was scheduled to have taken place from Sunday, April 29 to Friday, May 4.

But in a statement rebutting the reports, Ms Safo, who is also the Minister of State in charge of Procurement, said even though she made a request for the money, her letter was subsequently withdrawn due to Parliament's decision to 'foot the entire cost of the training'.

She further added that “there are records to show that she did not receive any money from the NHIA after Parliament agreed to sponsor the educational programme.”

"Yes, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo made the said request for sponsorship to the NHIA in a letter dated March 16, 2018. The request was subsequently withdrawn by a letter dated 21st May, 2018 due to Parliaments decision to foot the entire cost of the training which includes the cost of her tickets and the accommodation".
