Jean Mensa’s Appointment Doesn’t Guarantee Any Party Victory – NPP MP

Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi has urged members of the largest opposition NDC to stop criticizing the nominated Electoral Commission [EC] Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensah.

According to him, her nomination has nothing to do with the NDC winning or losing any election.

He told host of Peace FM's 'kokrokoo', Kwami Sefa Kayi that, it is up to the NDC to do their home work well by mounting vigilant structures at the various polling stations in the country, as the NPP did during the just ended elections.

He said the nominated EC Chairperson fits her position as she has worked as a neutral person at the Institute of Economic Affairs [IEA] till date, and has never heard her rally behind any political party.

Speaking as a panel member on Peace FM’s ‘kokrokoo’ programme, Hon. Boakye Antwi rubbished statements made by the General Secretary of the opposition party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia against the newly elected Chairperson.

“It is an irresponsible talk and must be ignored,” he said.

General Secretary of the opposition NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia claims the Nana Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, has appointed its own referee to conduct and rig the 2020 presidential and parliamentary polls in their favour.

"How can you appoint your own coach as referee to officiate a match against your opponent," General Mosquito said.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia cited that until the nomination of Mrs Jean Mensa, President Akufo-Addo had given the assurance to the nation that the persons to be named would be one of high integrity and political neutrality.

"For him to proceed contrary to his earlier assurances to appoint a known pro-NPP and an avowed anti-NDC person, defies all senses of decency, fairness and justice, and amounts to a gross abuse of the discretionary powers of appointment vested in him by the constitution," he added.
