I Prefers Al-Qaeda To NPP – Says NDC Lawyer

A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Abraham Amaliba has stoked heated political debate after professing his love for Al-Qaeda rather than the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Amaliba, a lawyer and a leading member of the NDC communications team said he would not hesitate to join the dreaded terrorist group if he was to select between it and the NPP, saying candidly that “I will rather join Al-Qaeda than the NPP.”

He said yesterday on Citi TV an affiliate network of Citi FM in Accra that he can never be convinced to join the NPP irrespective of what the party would achieve under President Akufo-Addo.

He asserted the NPP government had resorted to what he called public deception when President Akufo-Addo said the government was delivering on its campaign promises.

“This is not a president you can trust because already he has not been able to provide for his promises and it makes it difficult for anyone to trust him. He said by the end of this year, the Kumasi road would be improved. I ply the Kumasi road a lot to the North. I hope you will invite me by the end of this year, so I come here and have a chat about the road,” he added.

A member of NPP Communication Team, Gary Nimako, who is also a lawyer, was on the programme and refuted Mr. Amaliba’s assertions about President Akufo-Addo and his government, saying his (Amaliba) assessment of the government was premature.

He argued that proper assessment of government could only be made after the NPP’s four-year term in office.

Reports say the Al-Qaeda comment came about when Mr. Nimako said jokingly that by the time the president completed delivering on his promises to Ghanaians, Mr. Amaliba would defect to the NPP.

Mr. Amaliba is said to have interjected Mr. Nimako saying he would like to be a terrorist for the Al-Qaeda than join the NPP.
