NDC Drops Flags In Memory of The Late Kofi Annan

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia says the late former UN Secretary-General, Mr. Kofi Annan contributed positively to the socio political development of the country.

He says his contribution to the world was remarkable.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained as the Secretary-General of the UN, he made sure that there was relative peace in the country in times of elections.

"Though I did not work with him closely, I met with him at several functions and you could see that he has the country at heart. There is no doubt that Kofi Annan was an outstanding UN Secretary the world had.

"He came to show that, being a human being is not based on one’s skin colour, social status and gender type but rather everyone deserves to be treated as human being created in the image of God,” he said.

Kofi Annan passed away on Saturday at the age of 80 after a short illness.

Kofi Annan died at a Hospital in the Swiss city of Bern where he was receiving healthcare.

In a related development, the National Democratic Congress has ordered all party flags to fly at half mast in honour of the late Kofi Annan.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the party, Kofi Portuphy, they indicated that the NDC cannot forget the solid role Kofi Annan played to raise the flag of Ghana when he was Under Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) during the Rwanda Crisis when President Rawlings was Leader of the Republic of Ghana.

"It was no surprise that Kofi Annan became the substantive Secretary General of the UN," the statement added.

"On behalf of the NDC, I salute Kofi Annan for flying high the Flag of Ghana worldwide."
