NAGRAT awards individuals, media outlets

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), at the weekend in Accra awarded individuals and media houses that contributed to the development of the Association with plaques with citations, cash and double-decker refrigerators. The individual beneficiaries included Mr Lucas Akabo, first President of NAGRAT, Mr Martin Yao Dzikunu, first General Secretary of the Association and Mr Adjri Darko, first Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of NAGRAT. Professor Dominic Fobih, former Minister of Education in the erstwhile NPP government, was also awarded for playing a role in the wavering of tax on cars imported for members the Association, The media houses that were awarded included Metro TV and Joy FM radio station, both private media outlets, and Daily Graphic, a state-owned newspaper. Mr Kofi Asamoah, General Secretary of Trades Union Congress, said NAGRAT as a labour union has come to stay and organized labour would support it to grow. He said that the Single Spine Salary Structure and New Pension Scheme would have to be fine-tuned to benefit workers. Mr Kwami Alorvi, National President of NAGRAT, commended the awards winners for supporting the group to progress, adding that the rational for the awards was more important than the value.
