Mr. Emmanuel Kofi A. Buah, Deputy Minister for Energy, has called on members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), to exhibit professionalism in their work to prevent motor accidents in the district. He said government has the welfare of drivers at heart because they play a crucial role in the transport delivery sector, and that government would ensure that their needs and concerns are addressed to make them effective in their operations. Mr. Buah said these during a meeting with members and executives of the Aiyinasi branch of the GPRTU at the weekend, to advise and discuss pertinent issues confronting. The District Chief Executive, Mr Daniel K. Eshun, said the Assembly would do its best to support the drivers in all their operations, and called on them to demonstrate a high sense of discipline in their work by avoiding drunkenness, and ensuring that their vehilces are road worthy, with all the necessary documentation. Mr. Emmanuel Good-Frankton, Chairman of the local GPRTU, thanked the drivers of the branch for their cooperation and for not recording any road accidents last year. He appealed to them to work hard, be disciplined and demonstrate maturity in their interaction with passengers and other drivers. Mr. Good-Frankton attributed the local Union's success to discipline and the avoidance of drunkenness during working hours on the part of drivers, and urged them to continue to serve as role models for drivers in other parts of the country. He noted that the police are doing a good job in the district but added that drivers in the area have been complaining of extortion by the police. He therefore called on the DCE to assist the GPRTU to enable it to work effectively.
