NR NDC Youth Endorse Hudu Yahaya

A youth group in the Northern Region has backed Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, who is vying for the chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the impending primaries.

According to the group, the party needs a neutral person who can unify members of the party.

They indicated that Lawyer Hudu Yahaya can unify the rank and file of party for a common purpose.

The youth, therefore, appealed to delegates to give Lawyer Hudu Yahaya the mandate to steer the affairs of the party and ensure ethnic balance.

At a press conference held in Tamale, the Director of Communications of the coalition of youth group, Seidu Fiter said the party would need a Muslim to run the affairs of the Muslim community.

“It’s obvious that Mahama will be the flagbearer of the NDC and the running mate will be a Christian so we will need someone to speak and represent we, the Muslims in the country.”

Lawyer Hudu Yahaya served as the first General Secretary of the NDC from 1992 to 2002.

Under his leadership, the NDC won the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections.

At age 27, Hudu Yahaya was appointed the Northern Regional Minister. He later became the Minister for Trade and Tourism and Mobilization, running both ministries concurrently.

He currently serves as a member of the legal committee and chairman of the conflict resolution committee of the party.

Having served the party from 2002 to 2014, Lawyer Hudu Yahaya is the longest serving vice chairman of the party.

The National Delegates’ Congress of the party is expected to take place in November.
