UT Warehouse Robbers Gunned Down

TWO OUT of ten suspected armed robbers who allegedly attempted to raid UT Logistics Bonded Warehouse at Tema in the Greater Accra Region yesterday dawn have lost their lives in a shoot-out with the Tema Police.

Two other accomplices, Yaw Legekpoe, 47 and Boking Godwin, 45-year-old suspected foreigner, are firmly in the grips of the Tema Regional Police Command assisting with further investigations.

About six of the robbers managed to escape, however, police said they are on their heels to arrest them to face the law.

The bodies of the dead robbers have been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Information available to DAILY GUIDE indicates that the robbers numbering about 10 rounded up security personnel on duty at the company’s premises near Valco Roundabout and fastened their hands and legs with electric cables before embarking on the said criminal operation.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Obenefo Darkwah, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tema Regional Police Command, at about 12:30 am on October 1, 2018, police received a tip-off that UT Logistics Bonded Warehouse had been besieged by robbers.

Immediately, police proceeded to the scene and met the suspects in the act.

He narrated that, “On seeing the Police, the robbers who were ten in number, quickly engaged the Police in exchange of fire. In the process, two of the robbers were wounded and two others, Yaw Lagekpo, 47 years and Boking Godwin, 45 years were arrested while the rest managed to escape.”

He continued that the injured robbers were rushed to the Police Hospital in Accra for medical attention but unfortunately they were pronounced dead on arrival.

DPS Darkwah stressed that the two security guards who were at the premises and tied up by the robbers were released by the Police.
