Mention Any Country That Has Increased Cocoa Prices - Abronye To Minority

Brong Ahafo Regional first Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP] Kwame Baffoe has dared members of the opposition NDC to prove with figures any African cocoa producing country that have increased their cocoa prices.

He said though there is a decline in the price of cocoa on the world market, but what Ghana pays for a bag now is the best any cocoa producing country could ever pay and the highest among all countries that produce cocoa.

“There are some key institutions in this country we must not politicize issues concerning them, one of that is the cocoa industry. I dare members of the National Democratic Congress [NDC] to prove and mention any cocoa producing country who have increased their prices of cocoa,” he categorically asserted.

“I state upon authority that no country have increase their prices due to the world market price. Ghana’s cocoa price is higher than other cocoa growing countries per record,” he added.

In a one-on-one interview with UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme, Abronye DC as he is popularly called, disclosed his comeback to do party job is based on the passion he has for his party and a series of advice from well respected men of God, and not because he has been bribed by any party leader or awarded any contract as some people claim.

“Nobody can bribe me to do the work I have passion for, and I swear by the Presby Church building I attend that I have not been bribed for my comeback,” he said.

MoFA Blasts Minority

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has chided National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs) for playing petty politics with government’s decision to maintain the current producer price of cocoa for the 2018/19 cocoa season.

A statement from the ministry expressed shock at the partisan stance of the NDC members of the Food, Agriculture & Cocoa Affairs Select Committee of Parliament and their handling of the critical national issue.

Government, last Monday, announced that the producer price for cocoa for this crop season would be maintained at GH¢475 per bag.

It said it’s unable to increase price of cocoa due to the depreciation of the cedis against major foreign currencies and decline in the price of cocoa on the world market.
