NRSC to embark on Operation instant crush helmet buying

The National Road Safety Commission, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, would soon implement a Operation instant crush helmets buying policy in the Upper West Region. The exercise is aimed at reducing deaths in the region through motor bike accidents as result of non-wearing of crush helmets. The action of the commission is in response to the appeal made by the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Mahmud Khalid, during his interaction with Heads of Departments in the region in December last year. Mr. Suleiman Abdul-Karim, Upper West Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission, made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Wa on Wednesday. He said the policy was included in the commissions policy document for the year and presented to the Minister for Roads and Transport for his approval. He said the Commission had procured 50 crush helmets for a start as part of preparations towards implementation of the policy. Mr. Abdul-Karim said the Commission would hold a meeting with the police next week to deliberate on how the policy could be successfully implemented after it had been approved by the Ministry. The Regional Manager commended the police and the officials of the DVLA for their relentless support of the Commissions activities. Mr. Abdul-Karim appealed to politicians in the region not to interfere in the activities of the Commission and the police to enable them operate without any fear or favour.
