NDC Youth Election In Danger

There is uneasy calm in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the disqualification of some members of the party who are vying for positions in the party in the forthcoming primaries.

Over four contestants have been disqualified by the party for not holding executive positions prior to the current contest.

One of the aggrieved persons, an aspiring National Youth Organiser, Elikem Kotoko, has dragged the party to court for disqualifying him in line with the party’s constitution.

On October 16, 218, Elikem filed a writ at an Accra High Court against the party, the National Chairman and General Secretary.

Mr. Kotoko, in his writ, prayed the court to stop the NDC from holding the forthcoming primary to elect National Youth Organizer this weekend until his reinstatement.

Another aspirant, Wonder Madilo, who was also disqualified, was reinstated by the party upon appeal.

Elikem described the decision to disqualify him as improper and arbitrary.

The plaintiff wants perpetual injunction to “restrain the defendants, their committees, organs, agents from going ahead with the election of National Youth Organiser without him.”

According to him, the party’s decision to disqualify him was wrong because he held various positions in the party at the constituency level.

He, therefore, wants the court to set aside the decisions of the vetting committee, chaired by Major General Carl Mordey and the National Executive Committee and reinstate him.
