Absence Of Violent Conflict Alone Not Enough

For lasting peace to prevail in Africa and other parts of the world it has been pointed out that the concept of peace must be viewed beyond the absence of war or violent conflict to include the presence of governance structures such as a fair Judicial System and Parliament. Dr Thomas Mark Turay, Executive Director and Co-founder of the Centre for Development and Peace Education in Sierra Leone, made the observation in an interview with Peace FM in Accra. Dr. Turay said apart from the presence of a fair judiciary and an effective parliament there should be equitable distribution of resources, equal access to education and health and the respect of economic, social and cultural rights of all persons. Dr Turay praised Ghana for its achievements in the area of good governance and the promotion of peace in the country and the entire African continent.
