The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka Wontumi, says he will not allow ex-President John Mahama to campaign in Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Ashanti Region.
He slammed Mr. Mahama, who is currently campaigning to become the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2020 presidential elections, for targeting schools in his campaign.
According to the NPP leader, Mr. Mahama has been touring SHSs in some regions just to spread propaganda in order to confuse the students in a desperate attempt to become president again.
Wontumi, however, stated emphatically that he would never allow Mr. Mahama to visit senor high schools in the Ashanti Region to spew blatant lies to discredit the Akufo-Addo administration.
He, therefore, admonished the former president and his supporters to take his threat seriously in their own interest, saying he would not tolerate any acts of sabotage against the NPP government by Mr. Mahama.
The NPP chairman declared on radio that he would crush Mr. Mahama if he dares visit SHSs in the Ashanti Region to spread his false message.
Wontumi, who was very angry, said Mr. Mahama destroyed the country, especially the educational sector, during his tenure.
“If President Akufo-Addo is fixing your mess, you should not start to work to sabotage his positive works.”
“Ghana did not see much development during the eight-year rule of the NDC in political office; I am therefore surprised about Mr. Mahama’s ‘evil’ tactics to prevent the NPP government from moving the country forward, according to him.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Augustus Nana Akwasi, has hit back at Wontumi, stating that the NPP chairman has no right to prevent Mr. Mahama from visiting SHSs in the region to campaign.
According to him, Wontumi has become lawless since the NPP came into political office about two years ago, adding that “Wontumi will regret if he extends his violent behaviour to Mr. Mahama.”
The NDC Regional Chairman pointed out that the Ashanti Region doesn’t belong to the NPP, noting that any attempt by Wontumi to attack Mr. Mahama would turn bloody.
Augustus Nana Akwasi, who was recently elected as the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman, stressed that gone were the days when the NPP openly bullied the NDC in the region, saying that he is ready to face Wontumi.
