Earthquake Vigil In Ghana

Most Ghanaians in the early hours of today kept vigil following reports of a possible earthquake to hit the country. A cross country report from regional correspondents and surveillance indicate that people moved out of their rooms by midnight; noticeably family members and household tenants to avoid any calamity. A report from Breman Asikuma in the Central Region indicates that residents had to gather on a community school park looking very worried and scared. Speaking to Peace FM at dawn, a deputy Information Minister, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa debunked the widely spread falsehood and advised the general public to stay calm. He said after consultation with the Geological Survey Department as well as other stakeholders nothing of the sort was and is about to happen. Confirming his statement, the Deputy Director of the Geological Survey Department, Dr Kwasi Adu mentioned that the news of the earthquake was not one from his outfit and assured that the Geological Service Department was in a position to inform the public of such an emerging calamity in case it would happen.
