Miss Universe 2018: Akpene Hoggar Awakens The Spirit Of Yaa Asantewaa - VIDEO

Akpene Diata Hoggar fought for a place for Ghana on Miss Universe 2018 platform in the spirit of historical female warrior Obaahemaa Yaa Asantewaa on the international platform.

The 67th Miss Universe 2018 national costume contest took place at Nongnooch International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pattaya, Chonburi province, Thailand, on December 10.

The gallant representative of the Republic of Ghana Akpene Diata Hoggar stepped out in an incredible outfit that depicted the bravery of historical Obaahemaa Yaa Asantewaa who stood up to colonial masters when even the men were shaken by their threats.

“If you the men of Asante, will not go forward, then we will. We, the Women, will. I shall call upon my fellow Women. We will fight! We will fight till the last of us falls in the battlefields” Obaahemaa Yaa Asantewaa had said.

Akpene will bring the real battle on this weekend to slug it out with other contestants at the grand show which takes place on December 17, 2018, at Impact, Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok, Thailand.

It also highlights my connection with the Sun and the Earth. Sun-like head piece made of Gold to illustrate the wealth of my country Ghana. On the national costume are symbols, each bearing unique representations of cultural expressions, concepts, values and traditional mythology. * The symbol above the crown is termed, “MATE MASIE” (What I hear, I keep). It highlights wisdom, intelligence, and shrewdness. * The symbol on the staff is “DWENNIMMEN” (ram’s horns)- an Adinkra symbol for strength with virtues of humility. * The symbols embellished on the crown are called “GYE NYAME” (Except God). This symbol depicts the importance Ghanaian people’s place on their spiritual identity that is reflected in their religiousness. @sun_diataa @missuniverseghanaorg
