Abudu Royals Meet Nana

The Abudu Royal Family of Dagbon has reiterated its commitment to the process initiated by the committee of eminent chiefs led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu IIto resolve the chieftaincy dispute that has hampered development in the area for the past three decades.

This comes barely a week after members of the Andani Royal Family in Dagbon called on President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House to pledge their commitment to the peace process.

Speaking at a meeting with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House yesterday, spokesman for the current Regent (caretaker chief) of Dagbon, Alhassan Iddrisu said, “Mr. President, for decades, the people of Dagbon have suffered from the age-old debilitating Abudu-Andani conflict. It turned brothers against brothers, sisters against sisters.”

“Apart from that, the conflict over the years has led to damage to properties in all parts of Dagbon. It compromised our culture and eroded our dignity as a people. It has cost us lots of precious lives. This conflict has outlived numerous presidents and governments. Mr. President, this afternoon, we are here to thank you. We thank you for your courage.  We thank you for your sense of fairness. We thank you for your bold vision for Dagbon and Ghana,”

The Abudu Royal Family of Dagbon, led by the Bolin Lana, Abdulai Mahamudu, reiterated its commitment to reconciliation, lasting peace and development of the Dagbon Traditional Area.

“We wish to assure you that we stand for peace, unity, genuine reconciliation, development and advancement of Dagbon, and we stand in readiness to support your government towards finding a lasting peace in Dagbon,” it stated.

President Akufo Addo, on his part, described the news as heart-warming and expressed gratitude to Almighty God for helping to give the late Mahamudu Abdulai a befitting burial.

The President admonished the Bolin Lana, Abdulai Mahamudu, to be patient in his quest for leadership in light of the fact that he is young and has a bright future ahead of him.

“I came to the Presidency as an old man, so I know what it takes to wait for office. You are a young man, plenty of time ahead for you. We pray for long life for you and for health and that you commit yourself like you have done through your spokesperson today to reconciliation in Dagbon,” the President added.

He revealed that former President John Kufour had been vindicated due to his decision to appoint three eminent chiefs, led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to resolve the Dagbon crisis.

He praised the three eminent chiefs for negotiating over the years to bring peace to Dagbon. Pix saved as Abudu Family in 2019
