Five Policemen have mercilessly assaulted a 23-year-old driver�s mate, Clement Kukuladzi on the Kasoa road, precisely at the Police checkpoint after the tollbooth. The police in a bid to hide their identities took off their nametags and numbers before unleashing the brutality on the mate. The Policemen hit and kicked him several times including his groin. They also hit him with the butt of their guns. They later locked him up at the New Wejia Police cells for more than forty-eight hours after refusing him to seek medical attention even though he was in deep pain. The victim was detained at 8am on Friday morning and released on Sunday at 11am. The mate was travelling in an Isuzu Tipper truck with registration number GR 7099C, to Kasoa to collect gravels when he was assaulted by the Policemen. The vehicle is owned by Progressive and Modern Company Limited, a road construction firm. Narrating his ordeal to The Enquirer, Master Kukuladzi, stated that when he and his master (Driver of the Truck) reached the checkpoint, the policemen at post requested for the income tax sticker, but the driver told them that it is pasted on the windscreen. Thereafter, the Policemen requested for the document covering the vehicle but were told by the driver that it was in the office. Subsequently, the police asked the driver and his mate to park the vehicle and surrender its keys. Master Kukuladzi noted that when they were leaving to the office for the documents he told the policemen that they will be held liable if any item got missing upon their return. The comment, the mate said, probably did not go down well with the police officers who instantly pounced on him and subjected him to brutal assault after which they dragged him to lock him up at the New Weija Police Station cells even though he was in deep pain. He asserted that he was refused to write his statement but a police officer at the station did it for him. Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Progressive and Modern Company Limited, Alhaji Abdallah has condemned the attack on Kukuladzi and has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Paul Tawiah Quaye to take action on the policemen. He noted that the incessant harassment on Tipper Truck drivers on the Kasoa road Truck drivers on the Kasoa road by the police is hampering their business, adding that due to the harassment instead of six trips of gravels the trucks used to go, they now only go three a day. This situation, he noted is retrogressively hampering his road construction work.
