Gas Shortage Hits Parts Of The Country

Residents in Accra and parts of the Volta Region are complaining about the erratic supply of gas. The residents and commercial drivers, some of who spoke to Joy news complained of combing their entire vicinities in search of the commodity and even in places where it is available, they had to join long queues before getting it. "About four or five stations dont have gas. I went to Odorkor, Sakaman, I went to Chantan, Darkuman. They were all not having gas, one of the frustrated women in Accra said. One thing is that we are tired because of the gas. Sometimes, two or three days we dont have gas. We beg the government, they should do something (to save the situation) for us, another pleaded. The situation is no different in the Volta Region. Joy News reports of an acute shortage of LPG gas and petrol in the region. According to him, LPG particularly, has been in short supply for the past three months; a situation he said has affected businesses and domestic activities in the region. Commercial drivers have to queue for days before getting LPG to run their vehicles, he said. The aggrieved residents and commercial drivers are accusing the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) of doing very little to rescue them from the seeming deplorable situation. The OMCs on the other hand are accusing government for contracting private agencies to procure the commodity into the country, but some of these agencies have been inefficient thus far. Some of the OMC officials who spoke to Ben Coffie on anonymity claimed to have paid exorbitant amounts to these private agencies who have failed to deliver on time, culminating in the shortage. However the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) boss, Alex Mould, hinted government is working assiduously to resolve the shortage, saying the problem will be over in some few days.
