Bank Of Ghana Donates GH¢100,000.00 To Cardiothoracic Centre

The Bank of Ghana has supported the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital with GH¢100,000 to enable it to provide support to patients who could not afford the cost of treatment.

The amount is part of voluntary contributions from the monthly salary of the Bank’s staff into a Health Fund.

Presenting a cheque for the amount, Ms Gloria Quartey, the Head of Human Resource at the Bank of Ghana, said the Bank had been a consistent partner to the Centre since donations began in 1998.

She acknowledged the good works and worthy contributions of the Centre in the country’s healthcare delivery system.

Dr Lawrence Serebour, the Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, who received the cheque, expressed gratitude for the donation and described the increasing heart and chest-related cases as a big challenge.

He expressed concern about the cost of heart surgery although the present cost per patient is highly subsidised.

He appealed to other corporate organisations to support the increasing number of patients who cannot afford the cost of care.
