Kidnapper Of One-Year Old Boy Appears In Court

A Sekondi Circuit Court has referred Rose Mawusi Fianku, 42-year old seamstress, who allegedly kidnapped a one -year -old boy at the Takoradi Market Circle area to a Psychiatric hospital for a psychological check-up and assessment to determine her mental state.

The decision was as a result of the accused feeding the court with disjointed information when she appeared before it.

Her accomplice Lawson Lartey, a 33-year old mason was granted bail in the sum of 10,000 cedis with two sureties.

They are to reappear in court on the 26th April 2019.

The court presided over by Mrs Abena Adjin -Doku was informed that this was Rose’s second appearance in court and that in her previous court appearance she alleged that due to the beating she received from the Police upon her arrest, she lost her pregnancy.

However, a test result handed over to the court indicated that the accused was never pregnant as she alleged in her cautioned statement.

The accused had told the court that she had missed her period for two months of which she assumed pregnancy, but when the police arrested and allegedly beat her up, she bled which made her to believe that it was a miscarriage. 

It would be recalled that Rose and Lawson were arrested by the Western Regional Police Command for stealing a one-year-old baby boy at Market Circle in Takoradi on 22 March, 2019.

Rose, a seamstress and Lawson a mason who are believed to be lovers live together at Effiakuma within the Effia Kwesiminstim Municipality.

Rose is said to had cunningly took the One-year-old boy from his mother around Market Circle Post Office in Takoradi and sent him to Lawson as their baby since she had earlier told Lawson she was pregnant.

Police intelligence later found the child in the room of Lawson.
