Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng Bonsu, a member of the People's National Convention (PNC), on Thursday expressed worry about lack of job opportunities for the youth and urged the government to take steps to address the problem.
He said even though the government had so far performed well in the management of the nation's affairs, especially combating armed robbery, there was the need for it to pay attention to the plight of the youth.
Speaking to the GNA in Koforidua, Nana Bonsu said if the situation was not addressed it could lead to upsurge of crime in future
He said the situation where Accra was choked with many young people selling petty items was as a result of absence of good youth policies over the years and appealed to the government to do something about the situation.
On the water crisis that hit Accra recently, Nana Bonsu appealed to the government to take a concrete decision on the provision of water to ensure that such a situation did not occur again.
He appealed to Members of Parliament to sacrifice a little to ensure a "better Ghana Agenda" for all by using part of their resources to build boreholes in their communities.
"Our leaders should remember that they are there to serve and not to enjoy at the expense of the greater majority of the people".
Nana Bonsu said he was not happy about forest degradation and appealed to the youth to be at the forefront in the fight against the menance.
Nana Bonsu appealed to the youth to demand accountability from office holders and added "we have natural resources but the youth are not benefiting from them and we hope this will not continue when the oil money starts to flow."
