Mother of Omo Ada hitmaker, Medikal, Madam Portia Lamptey says she had to go through hard times to see her son, Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, finish Senior High School.

According to her, all efforts to turn her son away from doing music proved futile until he attained the limelight.

Madam Portia said she wanted Medikal to become a doctor and not someone who would record songs to make a life. She added that his dad wasn’t also supporting the path Medikal chose. “I wanted him to become a doctor. Initially I forced him a lot and I would lock him in his room and beat him because of his stubbornness,” she said. 

At a point she said Medikal was sacked from school and the only way she had to convince the headmaster was to clean his office and that of the school compound.

“I had to sweep all the compound of Odorgonnor for the headmaster to have pity on me and to accept my son back. I did everything for him. His dad wasn’t in support of what he did,” she said.

“Along the line we realised it was in his blood. One day, I told him to stop the music or deny me. He told me that he will do any work but will sill attach the music,” she recounted.

After giving him the chance to do music, she said she listens to Medikal’s songs before they come out.
