Parliament Clips Napos Wings

One of the latter day New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentarians, Dr Mattew Opoku Prempeh, member of parliament for Manhyia and popularly known as Napo, had his wings clipped by the Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament last Wednesday when he described the Ishmael Yamson report as bogus. The Chairman, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, was not comfortable with the description and asked the Member of Parliament to withdraw the word as members of the Ishmael Yamson Committee were not at parliament to defend that accusation. The Yamson Committee was appointed by President John Evans Atta Mills to study the Chinery Hesse Report which gave fat end of year benefits and ridiculous ex-gratia awards to Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor and some state officials which incurred the displeasure of the populace hence the Presidential Committee for the review of the Chinnery Hesse report. According to Dr. Prempeh, who was questioning Mr. John Akolugu Tia, the Minister designated for Information, said his use of the word bogus was not aimed at the personalities comprising the Committee but was at the report which to him was unconstitutional, noting that the Chinery Hesse report was in conformity with the countrys constitution which had also been passed by parliament. Dr Prempehs description did not find favour with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members on the committee and therefore heckled him when he was making that accusation.
