CPC fetes school children to mark National Chocolate Day

About 100 pupils from the Anyaa Roman Catholic Basic School, were on Friday, treated to a Cocoa Trail, jointly organised by the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) and the Ghana Tourist Board (GTB), at the chocolate factory premises in Tema. The tour formed part of activities marking this year's National Chocolate Day celebration, which falls on Sunday, February 14. Under the programme, the school children, divided into four groups, were taken round the factory, after which they were served with lunch and cocoa beverage, amidst music. Addressing the children, Mr Richard Amarh Tetteh, Managing Director of CPC recounted the history behind the Day, and said four years ago the Ministry of Tourism instituted it to replace Valentine Day. Mr Tetteh said the day is aimed at inculcating into Ghanaians, especially the young ones, the habit of consuming cocoa products daily, for better health. He said the Ministry has targeted the youth, especially the young ones, to consume chocolate for its health benefits, adding that, "we need to build a healthy future for this nation by starting with the children." Mr Alex Boakye, Events Manager at the GTB, said the three-day celebration, which began on Friday, would see most Ghanaians enjoying themselves with cocoa beverages during the celebrations. Mr Boakye said the celebration would be climaxed with a Carnival on Sunday.
