4-MTTU Men Interdicted For Taking Bribes

The four Police Motor and Transport Unit (MTTU) officers who were recently arrested at the Achimota overhead bridge for allegedly extorting money from some drivers have been interdicted by the Police Administration. A source close to the Police Intelligence and Professional Standard Bureau (PIPS) at the Police headquarters who disclosed this to Times yesterday said they were interdicted on February 2. The officers Inspector Joseph Karikari, Lance Corporals Daniel Yemoah, George Rockson and Sergeant Anthony Nyarko all of the Accra Central MTTU, were arrested last month. The source said prior to their interdiction, a preliminary investigation was conducted including taking of statements from the suspects. They were also made to report to PIPS daily. According to the source, once they had been interdicted, a trial of service enquiry will soon start. They will be handed over to a senior police officer who will try them and if it becomes necessary for them to be prosecuted in court, the Police Administration will not hesitate to do so, the source said. Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Paul Tawiah Quaye told the Times after the arrest of the suspects that their subsequent exposure in the media should serve as a warning to every police officer irrespective of rank.
