GILDS institutes a Board

A seven-member governing board has been instituted to oversee the affairs of the Ghana Institute of Leadership and Development Studies (GILDS), a Ho- based leadership and professional development organization. It is chaired by Dr. George K Fiasogbor, a retired WHO Staff, with Rev. Sister Georgina Fuglo, a Nurse Manager at the Anfoega Hospital as Vice-Chairperson. Mr. Vincent Darkey-Mensah, a Director of GILDS, at the board's first meeting on Tuesday observed that just as great inventions started as little thoughts of some individuals, the GILDS idea would become a major catalyst for development in the Volta Region and beyond some day. He called for support to bring to fruition the GILDS dream of building the capacities of artisans and professionals at all levels to meet the demands of the market place. An information leaflet on the Institute said "it would close the gap and provide opportunity to those who hitherto have been left out in their pursuit for further education". Dr. Fiasogbor urged management to work hard to make the GILDS mission and vision relevant to other regions as well. He said the GILDS idea was a more creative way of harnessing the capacities of many Ghanaians, left latent because of the non-availability of skills and development strategies.
