Acting IGP Storms Northern Region Over Police Woman’s Death

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP James Oppong Boanuh is expected to arrive in the Northern Region following the death of a police woman.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, Northern regional police PRO, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko explained that the visit of the IGP is to enable him receive first hand information about the security situation of the area.

He explained that he will also visit the family of the deceased to commiserate with them.

"The issue of armed robbery is a source of worry to all of us and that we have put in adequate measures in place to handle the level of crime rate in the area."

He added that high level security experts have been brought in from Accra to help track the criminals who perpetuated the gruesome act.

Though no amest has been made, he was optimistic the police will find the criminals and bring them to book.

Lance Corporal Agartha Nana Nabin at the Northern Regional Police Headquarters in Tamale was on Tuesday evening shot dead by military dressed armed robbers at a police checkpoint on the Kumbungu road.

The incident occurred at about 10:45 pm near Star Oil Filing Station when an ash coloured saloon car was signaled to stop on approaching the checkpoint.

Four occupants, all armed men dressed in military camouflage’, wearing face masks and dessert boots suddenly got down and shot at the deceased killing her instantly.

The other policewoman in her attempt to take cover stumbled and fell and her weapon together with that of the deceased were taken by the robbers.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital mortuary while the injured cop is responding to treatment at the same facility.
