We Won’t Breed Politicians In Local Gov’t Service – Ato Arthur Warns

Head of the Local Government Service (LGS), Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, has asked personnel working in the local government set up who hope to enter active politics to tender their resignation before doing so.

The trend according to him, is wrecking the local government service, adding “the rate is very alarming currently”.

“As I’m talking to you now just one district; Kassena Nankana in the Upper east region, the Engineer at the Assembly is going to contest at Bolga East on the ticket of NPP, we have Assistant Director also contesting on the ticket of NDC at Suaman; just one district. The Local Government Council has set a precedence on the basis of the Supreme court ruling in the CLOSSAG case, where we expelled one guy from the service who went to contest party position. So we would not countenance that.” he told host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 Fm.

He contends Local Government Staff need to remain very professional in the service and not double in politics per the Code of Conduct by the Local Government service.

The  Local Government Service are expected to remain in place, functioning in a professional manner, to assure continuity and process integrity in the administration of day to day governance, hence visible partisanship and overt displays of party affiliation would impair (even further) the efficiency and effectiveness of the governance service.
