Atik Mohammed Backs Govt Decision To Shut Akwatia Diamond Mine

Atik Mohammed of the People's National Congress (PNC) has backed government's decision to take over the Great Consolidated Diamonds, formerly Ghana Consolidated Diamond Limited (GCDL) from the JOSPONG Group of Companies.

Government, over the weekend, announced the take over of the GCDL, the country's only commercial diamond company which owns the Akwatia Diamond Mines that has produced more than a 100 million carats of diamond since its inception of commercial operations in 1924.

However, Jospong in a statement disagreed with government's action.

Speaking to this on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Atik said the action was in the right direction and that he would have been disappointed in government had they allowed the company to continue operation.
