The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council has reacted to comments by the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Andrew Barnes in relation to suggestions that corruption was still a problem in Ghana even though a majority of the people were Christians.

At the launch of a strategic plan of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition in Accra on Wednesday, September 25, Mr Barnes pointed out that it intrigues him that Ghana, as a strong Christian country has corruption as a problem in Ghana.

But reacting to his comments in a radio interview on Starr FM on Friday, the General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Rev. Emmanuel Barrigah said the population of Ghana is not made up of only Christians so the act of corruption could as well be perpetuated by other people of other religious beliefs.

He noted that it was inappropriate for the High Commissioner to say that to ridicule Christians, saying the Commissioner does not have any evidence in connecting the act of corruption in Ghana to Christians.

However, he advised that this should keep Christians on the alert and make them block every loophole they may have in their various places of work.
