Private Water Tanker Owners And Drivers Cry Out For Justice

The leadership of the Private Water Tanker Owners Association located at Awoshie have appealed to the government of Ghana led by President Mills to investigate the termination of their project by some personnel from the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL) and National Security. Speaking to PEACEFM News, Mr. Samuel Quansah Nkunu, Secretary of the Association, said on the 26th of January this year, GWCL together with National Security Personnel visited their premises at Awoshie, destroyed their pipes and their metres with reason that, they owe the GWCL. but upon producing copies of their receipts to the Dansoman Branch of GWCL, which turned out that we had settled every debt we owe them, we were told to go to the National Security, he stated. According to him, at National Security secretariat, they were asked to return because the District Assembly would take over the project. Since April 1992, our Association has been registered and authorized to operate by the GWCL, he revealed and appealed to government to investigate this matter. The Association is operating with over 500 cars. Each has a driver and 2 assistantsthis adds up to nearly 2000 workers. With this termination, these people have been rendered jobless, he lamented.
