The government, through the Ministry of Education, has released GH�10million (100 Billion Old Cedis) to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the payment of all outstanding arrears due to members of the service throughout the country. The arrears including supervision, vehicle maintenance, travel and transport, circuit supervisors, as well as overtime allowances for drivers and watchmen. A statement signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Education, Mr Paul Krampa, said the Minister of Education, Mr Alex Tetteh-Enyo, disclosed this when he met the executive of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in his office in Accra. It said the executive of NAGRAT expressed their appreciation to the government for promptly responding to their concerns and promised to break the good news to their rank and file for them to call off their planned strike action. The statement said the disbursement of the arrears would begin this week. Members of NAGRAT last week threatened to embark on an indefinite strike over delay in the payment of arrears of their allowances.
