Residents Of Kasoa Should Relocate...To Avoid Earthquake Disaster - GSD

The Deputy Director of the Geological Survey Department (GSD), Dr. Kwasi Adu, has advised residents of Kasoa and its surrounding towns in the Central Region to as a matter of emergency, relocate due to the possibility of an earthquake. I will advise that all those who reside there should relocate, he stated. According to him, Kasoa Nyanyano was the merging point of all the earthquake lines in the country as such it would be very dangerous to stay in such an environment. In Ghana, there is the probability of an earthquake rocking the southern parts, especially along the coast. But the capacity of Ghana to contain an earthquake, even of a lesser magnitude (earth-tremor), than that which occurred in Haiti, is in doubt. Speaking to PEACEFM News in an interview after reports of an earth-tremor hit the town of Gomoa Nyanyano in the Central Region, Dr. Kwasi Adu said the quake lines along the Akuapem Ridge passing through the Coast all merged at Kasoa. I will not advise any of my family members to either buy a land or reside at Kasoa...I even refused to buy a land at the place after I was shown a piece of land, he said He told PeaceFm that an earthquake could not be predicted as such it was advisable to stay off earthquake prone areas. Monday's earth-tremor was described by some inhabitants of the township as very frightening, but others said it was a usual occurrence they experience periodically.
