President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed reservations about the closure of the border between neighbouring Nigeria and Benin by the Nigerian authorities.

He believes this could have a general effect on the progress being made by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub regional group towards the achievement of free movement of goods and services and having a single currency.

This was when an eight-member delegation from the First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House in Accra yesterday.

For him, developments such as the closure of the border raise serious concerns that threaten the ECOWAS project. He said, “There are other considerations that the entire ECOWAS has to look at and examine to find a way so we can live in this region in harmony and allow the ambitions of every country in the sub-region to be fulfilled.”

On his part, the Group Chairman of the FBN, Dr. Oba Otudeko, commended government for the successful clean-up of the banking sector in Ghana and for the economic stability Ghana is currently enjoying. He pledged his banks commitment to continue to contribute its quota to the development of the financial sector of the country.
