Ten (10) children have reportedly died in Kumasi following various degrees of rainfall that rocked the city.
The deaths, however, were recorded at different places and at different times during the heavy downpours.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, the Ashanti Regional NADMO Director, Kwabena Nsenkyire explained that the situation is very alarming and that city authorities must take steps to prevent more deaths in further downpours.
"Just yesterday, another child got drowned in the rain. We have been visiting affected areas and we realized that these floods were caused by human activities," he said.
"We have been appealing to city authorities to take bold steps to demolish properties built-in waterways and those that have also been earmarked for demolition."
He also cautioned teachers and school authorities to desist from closing schools when the rain sets in, because most of the kids who got drowned were school children.
Heavy downpour across the country on Monday has resulted in floods leaving many wondering what is going to be done for future rains.
A section of the Accra to Tema motorway was flooded making movement difficult for many motorists.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has said that this year’s rains in October are slightly above normal and that heavier rains should be expected.
Areas that are anticipated to be affected by rains are the coastal belt and forest regions but not much is expected to occur in the dry northern regions.
