Expedite Investigations Into Death of Our Treasurer - NPP Charges Police

The New Patriotic Party(NPP) has asked the police to expedite investigations into the death of the party's Treasurer for the Sekondi Takoradi Constituency.

According to the party, they are very much appalled by the act and that the police should work hard and arrest the perpetrators.

Speaking on Okay FM's ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme, General Secretary of the party, John Boadu explained that he was dismayed to hear the sudden death of someone he had met just a day before his death.

“He was part of a group of party executives we met in the constituency just a day before his death. He was even the one who brought me the list of attendees of the meeting, only to be informed the next morning that he has been shot dead,” he said.

“We know the police are doing their best, and we heard that they have even picked some leads but we urge them to speed up investigations and arrest the culprits behind this heinous act.”

“The party commiserates with the family and has pledged our unflinching support to the police and the family as investigations are ongoing,” he added.

Background

The Takoradi Constituency Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Mark Ofori has been shot dead at his residence at Fijai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.

A security man who was also on duty was also shot dead by the same gunman who is currently at large.

According to the police, preliminary investigations show that the gunman entered a house where a 70-year-old night security man identified as Egya Adjabeng was on guard duty. The security man reportedly saw the robber and raised alarm.

The robber, who became offended by the conduct of the night security man, shot and killed him instantly then fled the scene to the next house, which happens to be the residence of the Treasurer.

The robber after entering the second compound reportedly forced a slide-window open and used a car-jack to shove the burglar-proof apart and entered the room.

Second victim

The robber's entry, the police said was detected by Mr. Ofori, 45, and immediately the robber shot him twice at close range killing him instantly.
