Police Announce Independence Day Road Closures

The Ghana Police Service on Tuesday announced that a number of roads around the Independence Square would be closed to traffic from 0600 on Saturday in connection with the Independence Day Parade. A statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police A.O. Akrofi, Commanding Officer of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit of the Ghana Police Service, named the roads as 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters to Castle Junction; Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on Lokko Street; Osu Cemetery -Starlet '95 Road-Ministries Traffic Light; AU Circle-Castle Road-Osu Cemetery Traffic Light. The statement said in order to minimise inconveniences to invited guests and members of the public attending the function, a number of places had been earmarked for parking of vehicles. They are the Forecourt of the State House; Accra International Conference Centre; Intercontinental Bank Car Park; Ohene Djan Sports Stadium; the Ministries Area; National Theatre and Efua Sutherland Children's Park. It said traffic police officers would be on hand to direct and assist motorists to the appropriate car parks and diverted roads. The police advised motorists to avoid parking within the perimeter of the circle around the Independence Arch and on the verges of the road from the intersection at the CEPS Headquarters through the Ghana Water Company Headquarters. The Police warned that any vehicle parked at these unauthorised places would be towed for GH�50 for saloon cars and mini buses and GH�75 for other vehicles.
