NDC Can't Think For Themselves But Yet Eyes Presidential Seat In 2020...Very Ridiculous Indeed! – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has ridiculed the move by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to solicit ideas from the general public ahead of election 2020.

According to the NPP, the NDC is completely at sea for requesting contributions from Ghanaians to their manifesto ahead of next year's general elections.

A statement issued and signed by a Deputy General Secretary of NDC on Sunday, Peter Boamah Otukonor asked Ghanaians to submit policy memoranda for the party’s 2020 manifesto.

According to Otokunor, “the objective to develop a grassroots manifesto is driven by the need to give meaning to our (NDC) social democratic principles of inclusivity and mass participation in the pursuit of growth and development of our country.”

The statement further read that “the 2020 manifesto Committee of the National Democratic Congress in its bid to develop a ‘People’s Manifesto’ that speaks to the direct needs and concerns of the people, wishes to announce the request for Policy Memoranda from the general public, Civil Society Organizations, Trade Unions, Associations and other identifiable groups in the country".

However, NPP Communications Director, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, at a press conference held in Accra, wondered how the NDC after touting its readiness to unseat the current administration, come 2020; already lacks ideas to develop a manifesto.

“Having set up a manifesto Committee, their first order of business is to ask 30 million Ghanaians to think for them which is incompetence of the highest order as an opposition party”,  he said.

Hon. Buabeng Asamoah, who doubles as Member of Parliament for Adentan constituency, poked fun at the NDC saying they in opposition has got time "to bring out ideas instead of asking the 30 million Ghanaians to submit proposals.

“Perhaps, we should help them because they are very confused. They can’t find any ideas. Even with all the time they have on their hands in opposition, they can’t find ideas to generate a manifesto that is capable of managing the affairs of this country by choice,” he further derided the party.

“My suggestion to their Manifesto Committee is to first conduct a baseline of how they managed to run a healthy first time oil producing economy into the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including a truth edit of the Green Boot...a rising growth rate in 2011 of 14 percent they managed to collapse the financial sector and reduced growth to below four percent ending us up with the IMF, that perhaps is the first idea,” he urged.
