My Client Has Been Wrongfully Detained Over Coup Plot – Counsel For Arrested Senior Police Officer

Counsel for ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzor who has been detained by the BNI for his alleged involvement in a coup plot, Lawyer Martin Kpebu says his client has been wrongly detained.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that his client is innocent of the charges leveled against him.

He added that his client has no involvement or business with the alleged coup plotters and that he is a professional Police Officer.

"ACP Dr. Agordzor was on a mission to Haiti and barely comes around let alone be involved in any such act with the suspected coup plotters," he said.

According to him his client was questioned on a post he made on facebook which the alleged coup plotters had interest in.

"So they approached him to be a member of their group and as a senior Police Officer who is concerned about the security of the country, he only offered to help but had no direct links with Dr. Mac palm and his associates," he said.

He added that his client was detained on Monday after interrogation though he was expected to be released.

Reports say the officer has been in communication with some alleged coup plotters who were arrested a few weeks ago and are standing trial.

“He was invited to appear before the BNI and he did so this afternoon [Monday] . . . initially, they said they just needed him to assist with investigations, but just this evening they turned from assisting with investigations to actually cautioning him."

“Meaning that he is on his way to be made an accused. The offense they have written is abetment of treason,” Martin Kpebu said.

Dr. Agordzor, according to his lawyer, was accused of assisting the alleged leader of the coup plotters, Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, through messages he sent on the instant messaging platform, WhatsApp, the report added.
