The Hohoe Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated a 13-member manifesto committee to interact with citizens towards the formulation of a comprehensive party manifesto for the 2020 general elections.
The committee has Mr. Francis Dimake, a former NDC Hohoe constituency parliamentary candidate aspirant, as chairman.
The members are; Newton Darkey, Silas Atipoe, Ibn Batuta, Kuyorwu Lambert, Anani Ampem and William Aniewu.
The rest are; Gladys Doh, Awuko Angelica, Adzrago Woelinam, Colonel Stephen Asem, Constant Tumawu and Beatrice Titriku.
Mr. George Bright Anni Bansah, NDC Hohoe Constituency Chairman, said the committee would implement a bottom-up approach in developing a manifesto that would be a social contract between the citizenry and the NDC Party based on the needs of the citizens, which the Party would prioritise come 2020.
He urged the citizens to willingly accept members of the committee when they visited them to solicit their views.
Professor Margaret Kweku, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Hohoe, said the Party was on a rescue mission and it was a "communal labour" for which members of the Party were invited to "build a more productive manifesto and save the country for the next generation."
She said the inauguration of the committee marked the beginning of a bottom-up and all-inclusive manifesto for a more productive, effective and efficient economy.
According to Prof. Kweku, the manifesto would feed into the regional and national manifestos and become the Party’s national development plan and "the blue print that will transform Ghana in 2021."
She said the NDC understood the basic things that made up the building blocks of the economy and also understood that infrastructure, education, health care and the economy were the critical needs of any middle income country that was development oriented.
Dr. Peter Worlarnyo Abomah, a former Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the current ‘meet the press’ session held by the Hohoe MCE did not truly reflect the actual situations on the ground, alleging that credit was not given to past governments.
"While the NPP government continues to score itself very high in fulfilling its manifesto pledge, the reality of high fuel price, high taxes, high cost of electricity and water, high cost of cement, high level of unemployment, collapse of our educational system and the banking and financial sectors, corruption and scandals are things that characterized the Akufo Addo and Bawumia led government," he said.
Mr. Victor Condobrey, also a former Hohoe MCE, noted that there had not been any significant development of the Hohoe municipality under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government claiming most of the projects within the area were either completed or almost completed when the NDC Party handed over power to the NPP.
He said the NDC when voted into power in 2020, would review some programmes by the NPP government such as the Planting for Food and Jobs and supply free and adequate fertilizers to farmers and not at subsidized prices.
