More than 700 people displaced in Asante-Akim South

A heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds that swept through the Asante-Akim South District on Wednesday, left in its trail ravaged buildings and more than 700 displaced people. The worst hit communities included Atwedie, Muramura, Asankare and Banka and a teenage girl, Rose Anim, who was injured in the rib by a flying object, received treatment at the Juaso District Hospital. Mr. De-Graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive, has toured the affected communities to assess the extent of damage and the immediate relief items the victims would need. He pledged the assembly's support for the victims and advised the people to regularly maintain their houses and plant trees around their buildings to serve as wind break. He was accompanied the District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Agyemang Boadi and other officials of the District Assembly. The District NADMO Co-ordinator, blamed the disaster on the indiscriminate cutting down of trees in the area.
