Okere Assembly Support 55 PWDs

The Okere District Assembly through its district disability fund management committee has provided income generating support to over 55 persons with disability to empower them economically.

The beneficiaries received items ranging from deep freezers, container/shops, sewing machines, dryers, ovens, whiles 25 others were given financial support for education and medical treatments, all at a cost of Gh¢108,000.00.

Speaking at a short ceremony to present the items, Mr Daniel Kenneth, the Okere District Chief Executive (DCE) indicated that government was bent on providing better living conditions for people with disabilities.

He said in order to ensure that the items were used for the intended purpose of empowering them economically to improve their living conditions, all the items were embossed to prevent it from being sold.

The DCE cautioned that the Assembly would monitor their activities to ensure compliance and any diversion of any of the items or money would not be tolerated and urged the various assembly members to monitor them.

The Queenmother of the Nifa division of Akuapem traditional area and Adukrom, Awo Adwoa Gyeko thanked the assembly for the gesture and advised the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.

She was particularly happy for the provision of container/shops and urged the women beneficiaries to work hard to be able to take care of their families especially their children not become liabilities.
