Snakes Invade ET Mensah's Office

There was drama at the Employment and Social Welfare Ministry in Accra when two snakes were found in the office of the newly-appointed Minister, E.T. Mensah. The two snakes were found coiled under the carpet of the Minister, setting tongues wagging about where they might have come from. Mr. ET Mensah, who was sworn into office last week by President Atta Mills, is yet to occupy the office, as he is awaiting refurbishment of the place. He was not around at the time those fixing the office saw the snakes. An officer of the Ministry supervising the refurbishment of the Ministers office, Samuel Nortey, said the place was not well kept by the previous occupant. He pointed out that the wooden structure on which the Ministers fridge is sitting is very weak and could be a breeding place for snakes. However, he was surprised as to how the two snakes, which he described as sizeable, managed to climb the floor housing the secretariat of the Minister and found their way into his office. E.T. Mensahs office is on the second floor of the building. The new Minister is taking over from Stephen Amanor Kwao, who has been dispatched to the office of the President as a Minister of State with a job schedule and desk to operate. A horrified young man who was tiling the office in preparation for the ministers occupation screamed his head off in alarm when he found the two reptiles, DAILY GUIDE learnt. DAILY GUIDE was reliably informed about how Dodo Ashley, the man replacing the tiles in the office situated on the last floor, chanced upon the creepy creatures, and together with his boys, summoned courage to kill them. The crawling creatures attract a lot of attention when they are spotted in residences and even offices, as in the case of an office yet to be occupied by the Minister. DAILY GUIDE has not been able to establish the type of snake found but the African royal python is the favourite of magicians because of its docility and non-poisonous profile. In places close to vegetation, the creepy creatures can easily slip into residences in search of eggs. When they are found in offices such as in the case of the Minister of Employments office, many questions would be posed. While the superstitious would consider the weird sight with suspicion, others might just dismiss it as the case of the reptiles just veering into the office and therefore meaning nothing. For Hon E.T. Mensah, if he is the superstitious type, he might just make do with whatever comes from the crystal ball of a soothsayer. Furthermore, stretching his neck to see if there is no creeping creature behind the steel cabinet or bookshelf in his office could become a feature of his for the next few weeks in his new place of work. Hon E.T. Mensahs new office joins his counterparts at the Water Resources, Works and Housing in making the headlines in recent times. The latter was in the news recently when the deputy Minister, Dr. Hanna Bissiw, ordered the lockset to the place changed, thereby denying access to the outgoing Minister, Albert Abongo, who fired a protest letter to the Castle, complaining about the intrusion of the deputy Minister.
