The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPE-Ghana) has asked the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to withdraw the recent fuel price increase.
Mr Duncan Amoah, Executive Secretary to COPEC-Ghana, said if the NPA fails to rescind the decision, his organisation will head to the court over the matter.
The NPA has issued a memo dated Friday, 13 December 2019 to all petroleum service providers indicating a decision to further increase some elements of the already-high petroleum price build-up and fuel prices.
Per the directive, which is expected to take effect today, Monday, 16 December 2019, all oil marketing companies (OMCs) and LPG marketing companies (LPG-MCs) are to apply an upward review of a combined four pesewa increase to Ghanaian pump prices.
But speaking on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra100.5FM on Monday, Mr Amoah wondered: “Whose interest is the NPA serving, as we are always experiencing fuel prices increases? The rate at which fuel prices are increasing is unacceptable”.
“NPA has issued a memo today that fuel prices should be increased because the margin we pay to BOST has been increased. What laws permit the NPA to increase that BOST margin? Clearly, the NPA is engaged in an illegality. The NPA should withdraw this or We’ll sue them”, he warned.
