Hairdressers Cashing In On Christmas Hairdo

Most hairdressers in Tema are making money as women and girls throng salons and parlors for hairdo trends to celebrate the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Some hairdressers the Ghana News Agency interacted with, said their clients started fixing their hair from December 20, 2019 indicating that on a daily basis people popped in to have their hair fixed for the occasion.

Madam Josephine Nyarko, a hairdresser at Community One, Site 12, said people started coming to the salon as early as 05:30 hours to have their hair fixed to avoid long waits.

Madam Nyarko added that most of the customers were plaiting and braiding while a handful were doing touched up and washing of permed hair.

She said, only a few people pulled their hair into a ponytail, the cheapest of all the hairstyles at a cost of Ghs20, as most went in for hairs styles that could last for several months.

She stated that corn roll rasta washing cost Ghs70 while loose rasta was Ghs60, touch up of permed hair cost between Ghs15 and Ghs20 adding that a pony wig cost GHs45

She concluded that the number of people visiting her shop was on the increase

Braiding inside the market by Liberian women was also well patronized as many women and girls were seen braiding dreadlocks, twist, cornrow, and rasta among others.
