Calm Returns To Bunkpurugu Yuunyo

Some residents of the Bunkpurugu Yuunyo district who fled the area following Sundays chieftaincy conflict have started returning home. Conflict broke out in Bunkpurugu Yuunyo district in the Northern Region between two Konkomba rival clans - the Binyami clan of Biarug and Biyambo clan of Temaa on Sunday March 7. Three persons, Mumuni Sayibu, 20, Adams Sayibu, 19, and Yenbi Blatam, 25 have been confirmed dead while over a hundred houses have been burnt down in the area. According to Northern Regional Police Commander ACP Angwunbutoge Awuni investigations carried out have revealed that the conflict erupted as a result of the enskinment of one Taadee Dasaa by the Naayiri, Mohammed Bohagu Shirigu as the chief of Biarug. ACP Awuni advised the two factions in an interaction to give peace a chance because the government has spent a lot of money maintaining order in the area and asked them to engage in fruitful ventures such as the pursuit of education instead of engaging in fighting. Police and military personnel were subsequently deployed to the area to maintain peace and order. Municipal Chief executive for the Bunkpurugu Yuunyo district, Hajia Melega Bawa told Citi News in an interview that business activities have returned to normal while some people who fled the area for fear of their lives have also started returning home. Since yesterday the whole place is calm, we have not heard anything, the people have come back to their homes so there is no violence again She said.
